About 5:00 on Saturday afternoon Units of the Griffin Fire Department, Griffin Police Department, Spalding EMS, and Emory Air Flight responded to the scene of a two vehicle accident at the intersection of Wilson Road and The Arthur K. Bolton Parkway close to the Griffin Post of the Georgia State Patrol.

Investigators indicated that two SUV vehicles collided a the intersection one of the vehicles overturned on its side and the driver and a passenger in that vehicle were trapped and needed extraction.  The two injured individuals were conscious and were able to talk with EMT personnel.  The decision was made to call in two helicopter air ambulances form Emory Air Flight based at the Griffin Spalding Airport and transport the individuals to the Atlanta Medical Center.

Traffic Investigators indicated that the sun which was setting in the west may have been a contributing factor in the accident as one of the SUVs that was traveling south  at the intersection was struck in the side by the driver of a second SUV that was traveling West at that time.

Traffic at the intersection was tied up for about an hour as investigators completed their work at the intersection and wreckers were called to the scene to remove the vehicles and debris from the roadway.
