Early Thursday night about 7:50 pm Units of the Spalding County Drug Task Force attempted to stop a vehicle on birdie road. The vehicle led them on a high speed chase.  

Thursday night about 7:50 The Spalding County Drug Task Force attempted to stop a vehicle on Birdie Road. The vehicle tried to elude officers and lead them on a high speed chase with speeds reaching over 102 miles per hour at some points.  The chase lead officers into Clayton county at wild wood road at the Spalding County Line.  One Spalding County Sheriffs unit was involved in a wreck while perusing the vehicle.  The deputy was not injured .  Three suspects were in the vehicle when it was finally stopped and all jumped from the vehicle and fled into a wooded area at Wild Wood Road,  Units of the Clayton Police Department, and Troopers from Griffin's Post number 1 of the Georgia State Patrol responded to the scene to assist with the chase. It was determined that methamphetamine  was left in the vehicle. After  short chase one suspect was apprehended, the other two individuals had slipped through the perimeter  even though the Clayton Helicopter was called to the scene to help locate the remaining suspects.   The incident remains under intense investigation and more information is expected to be released later by the Spalding Sheriffs Department.
