At approximately 12:10 Thursday afternoon units from the Griffin Fire and Rescue Department,  

Griffin, Power, Griffin Police Department, and The City Building Inspector all responded to a apartment  

fire at the Regency Apartment Complex 1100 West College Street Extension. Upon arrival the  

residence reported to fire fighters that she heard two big bangs and then the apartment filled up with  

smoke. The Fire was contained to apartment D to the heating and air unit.  Griffin Power was called to  

scene to cut the power off to the apartment. and the gas was also turned off to the unit.  Griffin Fire  

and Rescue personal removed the heating and air unit.  Upon further investigation by the Griffin Fire  

and Rescue investigator and the City of Griffin Building inspector the initial results point to a wiring  

problem with the heating and air unit.
